A unique and engaging exhibition, “Brick History,” has opened at the Museum of Gloucester, offering visitors a Lego-themed journey through significant historical events. Running from June 29 until October 6, this captivating display transforms key moments from history into intricate Lego models.
Curated by Lego enthusiasts Warren and Teresa Elsmore, the exhibition showcases 30 separate models across five thematic sections. Notable historical events represented include the London Blitz, the destruction of Pompeii, and the inauguration of US President Barack Obama. The exhibition also highlights milestones like the invention of the first mobile phone and pivotal figures such as civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
Amy Washington, the museumās programmes and exhibitions manager, noted the extensive effort involved in creating these detailed models, with some taking anywhere from one week to six months to complete. She emphasized that these models are original creations, not based on any existing Lego sets or blueprints, making them unique to this exhibition.
Each model also comes with explanatory notes detailing the construction process, providing insight into the creative and technical challenges faced by the builders.
“Brick History” not only offers a nostalgic look at familiar historical narratives through the universally beloved medium of Lego but also educates and inspires visitors of all ages by connecting them with the past in an interactive and innovative way. Whether you’re a history buff, a Lego fan, or looking for a family-friendly activity, this exhibition promises a fascinating experience.
